How to make the perfect 254 French Press Coffee

When you absolutely positively need to Caffeinate every European in the room with a morning coffee... use the 254 French Press... Accept no substitute.

  1. First, bring water to a boil in a kettle.
  2. If are using a coffee from the 254 whole bean range, grind the beans to a consistency similar to breadcrumbs (slightly coarser than you'd want for pour-over). These grounds should be of a uniform size, with not a lot of fine grit. Pour the grounds into the 254 French Press.
  3. When the water is between 90ºc and 96ºc (an easy way to get this right is wait about a minute after removal from the heat), add it to the French press and stir it vigorously into the grounds. The brew time should be about 4 minutes, then slowly plunge the press, try not to rush all good things come to those that wait! You want to separate the grounds from the coffee without any of them escaping past the filter.
  4. Serve and enjoy. Note: if you're not planning on drinking the coffee immediately, do not leave it in the French press, as it will continue to sit on the grounds and become bitter. Instead, pour the coffee into a carafe to enjoy later.
